Netflix welcomes Monster and Hajime no Ippo
It was announced in December that two of my favourite anime would be coming to Netflix. I should have told you all then but it totally slipped my mind.
(Click pictures to be taken to Netflix. Trailers below)
Hajime no Ippo (released in 2001) is hands down one of my favourite sports anime still to this date. It also follows the story of Ippo Makunouchi, a quiet and well-mannered student that helps his mum run the family fishermen business. Ippo suddenly finds himself being bullied by some older students and is saved by the professional boxer Mamoru Takamura.
Ippo takes up boxing in pursuit of what it means to be strong.
On the other hand, Monster (released in 2004) is my favourite mystery / psychological anime. It is underrated due to its slow pace, but the story and meaning are more profound than you think.
The story follows Kenzo Tenma, one of Japan's best neurosurgeons. Due to a certain incident, he is drawn into a world of darkness as he tries to solve a string of murder cases linked to a patient whose life he once saved.
One decision changed the trajectory of his life.
